lbuquerque Tortilla Company, Inc. started out with a secret recipe and a dream. With a tiny building, a used tortilla machine, and eight employees, the family business was underway.
The company began as a small operation making flour tortillas. Back door sales and satisfied restaurant customers helped the company quickly outgrow its first location in 1990. The expansion included the addition of a new corn tortilla line, and several additional employees. Because the quality of the tortillas was so good, production was soon running day and night in the new building. The small wholesale-to-the public store was often filled with customers snatching up the warm, freshly-made tortillas.
Since that first move, Albuquerque Tortilla Company has outgrown many locations, and now occupies 189,000 square feet of space. Together with the help of state-of-the-art tortilla making machinery, Albuquerque Tortilla’s 300 employees are turning out 4,000,000 flour tortillas and 3,000,000 corn tortillas weekly, along with a large volume of 120 other quality food products. Many of these foods are then distributed throughout the Southwest, to the West coast and beyond.
Nobody can compare with Albuquerque Tortilla Company’s “Home-style” brand of tortillas. The company, adamant in giving the customer what ever they desire, also manufactures a complete quality line of food products. Albuquerque Tortilla gathers its chilies from Hatch, New Mexico, the “Chile Capitol of the World”. These chilies are used in many of our prepared food recipes. The company has a new state-of-the-art frozen prepared foods plant commencing operations in Spring 2008. This is an additional 85,000 square feet of production and freezer space enabling customers, whether in Los Angeles, CA, Santa Fe, NM, New York City or anywhere else, to enjoy our quality line of food products. This new expanded facility will help Albuquerque Tortilla provide over 120 line items to its ever growing customer base nationwide. Today’s demand for Hispanic Food currently is growing by leaps and bounds.
No, “We’re not just a tortilla company anymore!” Albuquerque Tortilla Company, Inc. is one of the most modern food manufacturers around. But one thing does not change – roots. Be it eight employees or 300, 1300 square feet or 189,000, the roots of quality and hard work remain the same.
